A man died during a martial arts practice in Ottawa's Byward Market area on Thursday.
Paramedics said around 7:30 p.m. the man was practising capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian art form that incorporates martial arts and dance, when he had a weak spell and went to sit on a bench.
He then became unconscious and paramedics said he had no vital signs when they arrived at the Routhier Community Centre on Guigues Avenue.
The man was rushed to Montfort Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
One woman inside the building at the time said police had cordoned off the room where the incident occurred, and that the man's classmates — a group of about 15, all over 20 years old — were outside crying.
The man hasn't been identified.
