The Islamic Republic is building a space center in the South-East of Iran in Chabahar region. It’s named after the Leader of 1979 Islamic Revolution – Imam Khomeini.
The project is more than 80% completed. The project is monitored by Iranian Space Agency headed by Hamid Fazeli.
Fazeli said that this center will allow to launch bigger and heavier satellites into orbit, adding that this center is not a military structure.
Iran launched its first domestically-produced satellite Omid (Hope) in 2009, an endeavor which made it the ninth country having the capability to launch satellites.
Iran is one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations’ Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which was set up in 1959.
Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said that Imam Khomeini, will be used for launching satelittes made in Iran and other Muslim countries into space.
