Pharaoh Akhenaten’s Mummy Identified

Recent DNA tests performed on the mummy of King Tut and a number of other Egyptian mummies have led to the identification of a mummy believed to be that of King Tut’s father: the pharaoh Akhenaten. Akhenaten’s mummy had previously been unidentified, and known solely as KV55, after the tomb in which it was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century.
Close to 3,300 years ago, Akhenaten was the Egyptian pharaoh who was overthrown by his high priests after his attempt to convert his kingdom to monotheism. King Tut, the boy king, took to the throne after his father’s assassination and re-established the previous polytheistic Egyptian religion before his own death as a teenager.
