Nanaimo RCMP are warning the public after a local man was charged with sexually assaulting four young girls.
Gary Alan McIntyre, 47, was charged with five counts of sexual assault in incidents involving four young women, aged seven to 14.
Police say they started investigating McIntyre in September after parents of a 14-year-old girl filed a complaint alleging inappropriate sexual contact after visiting McIntyre's home in Cedar, east of Nanaimo.
"Since September, of course, we've identified four young females. We believe there are more victims out there," said RCMP Const. Gary O'Brien.
All four victims, O'Brien said, had been at McIntyre's home having play dates with his child.
He said McIntyre has also been involved with the Nanaimo White Rapids Swim Club for several years.
"A number of children had attended to his home on various play dates and functions associated with that swim club, so that's why we're advising the public to be aware if their children have been to his home," O'Brien said.
However, the president of the swim club told CBC News McIntyre was not involved beyond being a parent.
McIntyre was arrested Friday afternoon and released on bail with strict conditions. He was ordered not to have contact with youth under the age of 16, and to stay away from any school, parks, pools or "anywhere youth gather."
McIntyre is on a leave of absence from his employer and living in a local motel after moving out of his home.
Anyone with information on these crimes or other unreported incidents involving McIntyre is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
