Currently, the pro-Israel US media and lawmakers are running a vicious campaign against UK’s daily Guardian’s Jewish columnist, Glenn Greenwald, for exposing Israeli links to the US National Security Agency ‘s (NSA) spying on American citizens. Liel Leibovitz blamed Greenwald at the Jewish Tablet magazine for committing “Sick Brew of NSA Leaks and Anti-Israel Hysteria” on June 19, 2013. Other Jewish writers, Joe Klein (Time magazine) and Jeffrey Toobin (The New Yorker) also blamed Greenwald for spreading lies about NSA and Israel.
Earlier this month, Rep. Mike Rogers, Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, joined a chorus of pro-Israel lawmakers and intelligence officials in condemning Glenn Greenwald’s multiple revelations of government surveillance programs, saying Greenwald and his source released information that could be dangerous to national security, and should be prosecuted.
“Greenwald doesn’t have a clue how this thing works, and neither did the person who released just enough information to literally be dangerous,” said Rogers.
On April 3, 2012, James Bamford exposed several shady firms with ties to Israel, such as Amdocs, Naru and Verint, which are providing wiretapping equipment and monitoring NSA spying operation.
On June 10, 2013, Israeli daily Ha’aretz confirmed Bamford’s story, saying “the NSA’s PRISM surveillance program may lead to tougher standards for telecommunications gear like that developed, manufactured in Israel“.
With Israeli Mossad, running its largest espionage network inside United States, Israelis have long been active in surveillance on anti-Israel Americans, especially country’s Muslim population.
“Mossad doesn’t seem too worried about its technology falling into the hands of its ex-employees. In other words, these companies are likely to be MOSSAD operations in all but name. And in the U.S., because of the power of the Israel Lobby, there would be no outcry in the media, from politicians, or even from the defense establishment when an Israeli company is awarded a contract to do the spying for the NSA,” wrote Dr. Kevin MacDonald on June 19, 2013.
The NSA, established on November 4, 1952, is staffed with more employees than CIA and FBI combined. On December 6, 2012, the Electronic Frontier Foundation published a guideline on NSA’s domestic spying. The guideline lays out key events in the history of the NSA spying and its legal actions to keep its activities secret.
An American anti-surveillance organization, Stop Watching Us, in an open letter has demanded that the Congress reveal the full extent of NSA’s spying programs and the officials involved in these illegal activities, should be punished as criminals.
