In response to kidnapping of their son, al-Miqdad family abducted on Wednesday more than 20 members of the western funded and trained Salafi/Wahabi militant groups known as the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
The family announced its “military wing” had abducted several members of the “FSA”, in response for the kidnapping of Hassan Miqdad by Syrian militants two days earlier.
“The family’s military wing kidnapped several Syrians. We are not afraid of anyone,” Abu Ali al-Meqdad said on behalf of the family. “There are over 20 FSA members kidnapped in Lebanon,” he added.
He said the tribes of the eastern Bekaa valley such as Shamas, Zaiter, Nasreddine and Dandash are all working together and will reveal their “big catch” on Thursday morning.
Al-Miqdad military wing becomes the third Lebanese Shia Resistance group to fight foreign occupation and government’s negligence on South Lebanon’s economic and security levels. The first Shia Resistance group AMAL, headed by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, was founded by Imam Musa al-Sadr in 1974 for similar reasons. The second Shia Resistance group, Hizbullah, was founded in response to Israel’s occupation of South Lebanon (1982-2000).
In 2000, Jewish occupation army was forced to withdraw from South Lebanon after Hizbullah’s 18 year of military resistance. In Summer 2006, Hizbullah defeated a 30,000-strong Jewish army after a 34-day war. Israeli English daily Ha’aretz (December 16, 2010) quoted retired Israel Occupation Force (IOF) Gen. Giora Eiland, former national security adviser to former prime ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert, saying on Army Radio: “Israel does not know how to beat Hezbollah”.
“While Hizbullah’s hands have been tied due to sectarian sensitivities, Shi’ite tribes and clans in the Bekaa are clearly not constrained by similar considerations. Hizbullah has only limited influence over these families—numbering in the tens of thousands—who are accustomed to taking justice into their own hands. But by kidnapping foreign fighters, diplomats and others, they have unwittingly become regional players and a clearly significant force that the Syrian opposition and its Saudi, Qatari and Turkish backers have to contend with from now on,” says Amal Saad-Ghorayeb, Lebanese female writer and blogger.
