The Madrid City Council unanimously decided tonight to suspend Police Chief Rick Tasler for a series of online videos that show him pointing a handgun at a sparring partner’s head and allowing a civilian to fire a series of weapons.

The five-day suspension will be unpaid. Tasler will also have to complete 60 hours of professional development, and the city is going to reevaluate its policy on allowing police ridealongs. Tasler, 32, said he was on his own time during the filming, but was in uniform. Tasler’s patrol car is shown in the clips.

Tasler told the Register last week that the videos were shot as part of a documentary for a mixed martial arts Web site that showed fighters in their careers outside the ring. Tasler, who fights under the nickname “Lawman,” planned to retire from fighting after a bout Saturday at Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
