Assignment No 1 for the science: find extraterrestrial life

What is the most important question of science? The origin of consciousness? How to reconcile quantum mechanics with general relativity? These are obviously big questions, but the biggest is still: are there in the area even more creatures like us? Understand what life is, how it all began, the greatest challenge of our time, believes The New Scientist.
And the search for extraterrestrial life is probably the best argument to support projects to preserve space. Extraterrestrial life people find interesting, something that may cost. You would think that organizations like NASA all their efforts on that goal.
But strangely enough it is not. Both the NASA and European space organizations look for signs on Mars that indicate that conditions are suitable for life, but they are not looking for living organisms, as you would expect. NASA seems even to be ashamed that they would find extraterrestrial life.
Scientists and NASA should make their shame, not fear being confused with ET and in full force to search for life in the universe. It is time that a large concentrated, and if necessary expensive quest is to Mars, Titan, Europa and other promising sites, and that flying telescopes will be launched to radio signals from elsewhere to cope. The last thirty years, the NASA space research as boring as possible. There should just change.
