Thursday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gave a rare interview to Lebanese Al-Manar TV. He talked about the early protests against his government, demanding political and social reforms which were later hijacked by foreign armed and funded pro-western takfri mercenaries and Turkish and Israeli military strikes in support of the foreign insurgents.

During the entire interview, President Bashar al-Assad, displayed a high level of confidence that his Ba’athist regime could prevail over the rebels trained and funded by the “Friends of Israel” in the West and the region.

When asked about the US allegations that Hizbullah fighters are helping Syrian forces trying to flush-out rebels from strategic area of al-Qusayr – President Assad said Hizbullah fighters are fighting Israeli enemy and its armed agents in the region.

Assad warned the Zionist regime not to provoke him further as Syrian army is strong enough to retalitate. He said that Damascus is already in possession of Russian missile defense system – and the country is expecting to receive its advance version (S-300) from Russia in the near future.

Earlier on May 28, Moscow had said, that despite objections from the US, Britain and Israel, it would go ahead with the delivery of S-300 systems to Damascus. Following the announcement, the Zionist regime threatened it would take action to prevent the delivery of the systems to Damascus.

“Russian plan to supply sophisticated anti-aircraft missile to Syria is threat to Israel, and Israel is prepared to use force to stop the delivery,” said Gen. Moshe Yaalon, Israeli defense minister and entity’s former Chief of General Staff, told reporters on Tuesday.

The Zionist regime, fears that S-300 batteries will limit its air-force’s ability to attack Syrian targets in the future. Syria already possesses Russian-made short-range defense systems which Israelis have succeeded in avoiding by using long-distance bombs fired from Israeli or Lebanese airspace. The S-300, which has a range of upto 200 kilometers and the capability to track and strike multiple targets simultaneously, would naturally limit Israeli options.

Russia’s deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, has assured Israel’s western allies that S-300 would be Syria’s deterrent against foreign military intervention. It will pose no threat to the western-sponsored rebels as they don’t have an airforce.

Many military analyst believe that European Union’s decision to lift arms embargo against Syria in order to allow France and Britain to supply more arms to the rebels – could start a arms race in the region. As result, Syria’s allies, Russia, China, Iran and Iraq, could decide to supply advanced military hardware to Syrian army.

Al-Manar TV is affiliated with Hizbullah Resistance and country’s most powerful political party. Hizbullah was also a partner in Lebanon’s previous governmat. “Al-Manar, it’s personal for Israel. The reason is that Al-Manar did to Israeli government propaganda machine (Hasbara) during and following July 2006 war what Hezbollah fighters did to Israeli troops. Al-Manar kicked butt. That station must be made to disappear. The plan is to stop 15-20 million daily viewers of Al-Manar from receiving its transmission and well as to intimidate all the other Middle East TV channels that are suspected of moving toward the growing “Culture of Resistance” spreading in the Middle East from Lebanon,” A Washington DC observer of how Israel controls the US Congress 12/9/09.
