There is supposed to be a "Super Moon" taking place on 3/18/11 if so where will it take place? And what are the effects of one. I hope it does not take place in Japan, they've taken enough damage for the time being.
The "Super Moon" is an astrological term, not an astronomical one. It means that the lunar perigee occurs at the same time as the Full Moon, and is supposed to have tremendous astrological importance. However, astronomically, it's just a fairly uncommon event that means nothing special.
Funny, isn't it, how that 'super moon' catastrophe idea was proposed by an astrologer, whose trade is based upon the false premise that the stars and planets act upon us to control our fates through mysterious forces, and had absolute zero backing from real scientists. Also, the Moon was nowhere near perigee during the quake in Japan. Actually, it was further away than average, since the Moon hit apogee on March 6.
