She was a GREAT LADY Dylan. I am sorry that you did not get a chance to meet you. She would have been very supportive of your studies and interested to see what you are doing.
She met my Dad when she was just sixteen.... They dated during the early spring of her 17th year... and married that September. They kept their courtship entirely secret( and in a small town like Zanesville ,Ohio I don't think that was an easy thing to do.) He totally trusted her with all of his thoughts .... and when she realized that he was telling her things that he could never ever tell anyone she realized that he would need her for the rest of his life and she told me " That was pretty important information which I took very seriously."
My mother kept alot of secrets. Even from me.... she never ever leaked information regarding Dads work and was highly respected by the people around him because of that. I am learning now that she probably knew much more and was more of an " insider" than I ever realized before. But she always kept herself in Dads shadow.
One of the reasons that Mr. Twigsnapper got involved in all of this is because a certain writer ( the man who wrote the Philadelphia Experiment, William Moore).... made a statement that Josephine Brown had leaked information to him regarding Dad. THAT made Twigsnapper mad.... oh beyond mad.... fuming....He hasn't gotten even yet on that situation but I am sure eventually he will.... My Mother NEVER could be accused of that. EVER. Twigsnapper is determined to right that slur on what he considers her sterling reputation amongst the intelligence agencies out there.
And she was totally convinced that what Dad was doing was important work that deserved her wholehearted support.... which she gave as much as humanly possible.... but of course There were moments where she just couldn't go where he needed to go... The summer of 1960 was one of them.... After moving so many times for so many years... the opportunity came up where we could all stay in one place ( Chantilly Virginia....) but then Dads plans changed suddenly which meant a move to Meadville Pa.... She separated from him then for a few months.... we were all miserable.... Dad got sick... she drove to him through a blinding snowstorm and vowed that NOTHING was ever going to separate them again... and she meant it.....
That summer was pretty well captured in The Good-Bye Man. For those of you reading this... if you don't know about my Mom please take a look at this. She deserves even more of her story to be told but this is at least a start
Smashwords — The Good-Bye Man — A book by Linda Brown
Think about this. What would have happened to his work if he had married a woman who said ..." Townsend Brown.... you are a wealthy man... I expect to be able to have this nice house, this position in the community and to STAY here.... you don't have time to waste on your " Flying Saucer pipe dreams" ( thats what some in Zanesville called his work)
What would have happened then I wonder?
Lesson for the future. Choose carefully!!! <g> Linda
