Doc... you said...

Good stuff.
I'd like to hear more about the details of TTB's doings 1955 through 1957. This was a very active time obviously. NICAP. Berlin. Paris. In particular I'd like to hear more about the whos and whys of his involvement with Project Montgolfier in France. In my REWRITE I am looking carefully now at exactly that time frame. concentrating on the years 1954 through 1960. On this first pass I am not veering off my observations as a 10 year old kid because that is where my value is.... but I am coming to realize that Dads choice of living there was strongly influenced by those who were helping and influencing him. and as I have said.... they are difficult Group to see because they were expert at " leaving no shadow" and this was a dangerous time....
But if we read Dads interaction with the French you will see that they became upset with him because he wanted to include the US in the research work. The French were not so happy about that thought..... Remember, at the time, that the French were considered " compromised" by the communists influence at the time. Its a political and military swamp that I am not equiped to wade into at the moment ,but I know that its there
Historians reading my efforts will be able to go even further. THERE was Alot going on. Jacques Bergier was right in the middle of things. For those of you who don't know his history... it might be worth it to you to study him.
Meanwhile I am just doing what only I apparently can do and that is tell the Townsend Browns story from the perspective of those closest to him at the time..and through the loving eyes of his devoted daughter...Thats my perspective. If anyone has another view then I invite them to write their own book. <g>
I didn't know everything about what Dad was doing.... but I know stuff that no one else does.....
Right now I am concentrating on Leesburg in 1955 through 1959. We lived there twice during that time.... and my memories of the town are strong. In fact if I were ever to pick a " hometown" I always consider it Leesburg .... my associations with students at the elementary school and then the high school might have been sp sketchy that I doubt seriously that ANYONE would remember the quiet athletic kid that I was.... but perhaps there were others who may someday speak up and help to shed light on this mystery.
Why did Dad insist on having us live in this little town 35 some miles from his work? When we moved to the cottage on Cornwall street ... WHY did Helen move in almost immediately? Why did Mother seem to have a job ALREADY waiting for her when we first moved to Leesburg in 1954? She was working for Mr. Van Iden Zeiler at the top of King Steet from the first day that we were there.... and worked with him until we left for Florida in the spring of 1957. Helen Towt was ex Navy but had been working in Leesburg even before we arrived. Her employer was a man named Judge Phillips.
Now this is where it gets interesting. George Marshal had a home in Leesburg. (though he was rarely home during these years) but.... heads up here folks!..... he established a " Unit" that was busy Investigating " Flying Saucers" at the time...... It was called the IPU....
And I am wondering.........what are the possible connections between Judge Phillips, Van Iden Zeiler and General Marshal? AND THE IPU AND THE FOLKS INVOLVED WITH IT?....So far the common denominators are my mother ( who was Van Idens secretary and office manager during those years) and Helen... who was doing the same kind of work for the Judge.}
What was happening right under the surface?
I had only one really good buddy during the return to Leesburg and the years 1958-1960... her name was "Jeffrey" ( which I thought was a cool and different name) and I always admired her because she was forward and outgoing, an excellent horsewoman..where I was more inward and shy.... but on horses we were both fearless!.. I learned quickly that no one ever dared Jeffrey to do something because they knew that she would go ahead and do it. We were pretty close for a couple of years.
Jeffrey.... are you reading this? Can you help me here? As you can see there are already those who are trying to discount my story by saying that the things I have written are not based in fact.... but you were there... you can stand up with me?... even if its just to say that.... "yup,,, I knew her.... she was a strange kid! " Please respond?
ps I have a colt in my corral right now that always reminds me a little of your " Goldie"... about the same size.... but I have never found the riding partner that you were for me during those years. Linda
