AMSTERDAM -

The third and final fly-by the American explorer Messenger along the small planet Mercury has again had surprising results.

On September 29 the Messenger flew at a small distance along the innermost planet of the solar system. Again parts of the surface which have not previously been photographed by space probes were recorded.

Meanwhile, a total 98 percent of the Mercury surface is on display. Messenger discovery included an impact basin with a double ring structure and a diameter of 290 kilometers.
