Last week, to my great surprise, the European Union (EU) turned down a request by Israel’s radical Jew foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman to blacklist Lebanese Islamic Resistance Hizbullah as a terrorist organization after Israel’s latest false flage operation in Bulgaria. “There is no consensus or justification for putting Hezbollah on the list of terrorist organizations,” said Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency. Sitting alongside the Cypriot minister at a news conference held after annual EU-Israel talks, Lieberman said: “The time has come to put Hezbollah on the terrorist list of Europe.” To Lieberman’s whining, Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis responded that Hizbullah was active in country’s politics (Hizbullah has three cabinet ministers in 30-member Lebanese government) – Taking into account this and other aspects there was no justification for putting Hizbullah on the list of terrorist organizations.
“The Lebanese Hizbollah is an organization that comprises a political party and a social services network as well as an armed wing. Hezbollah is active in Lebanese politics, including the parliament and the government, and plays a specific role with regard to the status quo in Lebanon,” she told Lieberman.
Currently, only three countries, Israel, the US and Canada, have classified Hizbullah as a ‘terrorist organization’.
The European Union and many of its members have always supported Israel against Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian and Iranian – financially and politically. The EU gives over 158 million Euros in annual aid to various Jewish organizations in Israel. The EU members are fed with Islamophobic and anti-Iran lies via think tanks such as Realite-EU.
Behind its verbal criticism of the Zionist regime, EU has offered Avigdor Lieberman to upgrade diplomatic and trade relations in more than 60 areas.
“I was struck by the fact that a whole range of relations was offered to Israel – at the request of Israel – as if nothing is happening on the ground. Most ministers are too afraid to speak out in case they are singled out as being too critical towards Israel, because, in the end, relations with Israel are on the one hand relations with the Jewish community at large and on the other hand with Washington – nobody wants to have fuss with Washington. So [ministers] are fine with making political statements but they refrain from taking concrete action,” one senior EU diplomat told British daily Guardian (July 23, 2012).
Since 2000, the Zionist entity is a privileged partner of the EU. The EU is Israel’s first trading partner with total trade amounting to 29.4 billion Euros in 2011. Last month, former US ambassador to the EU, Stuart E. Eizenstat, suggested that the nations which desire to join the EU, should be forced to pay compensation for crimes against the Jews.
I agree with Amal Saad-Ghorayeb, a Lebanese writer, author and blogger that US will be more than willing to turn a blind eye to Iran’s nuclear program were it not for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatullah Ali Khameini’s material and political support for resistance movements (Hizbullah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad) in the region. “The problem for the US is not the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran as such, the problem is a nuclear-armed Iran which actively backs movements which resist Israel,” she wrote.
