The pro-Israel British Zionist groups say that Britain’s best-selling novelist of all times, Agatha Christie (died 1976) – like famous English poet William Shakespeare (died 1616) portrayed Jews in negative sense; something reserves for Muslims and Blacks in the West.

I have read both Shakespeare and Christie during my college days. They’re not ‘Jew haters’ – but do portray Jews in England’s past record of discrimination against all non-Christians and non-Whites. Jewish communities were expelled from England in 1290 and were allowed to return in 1656.

Zionists’ favorite writer, Christopher Hitchens (died 2011), who found out in 1987 that his mother was Jewish – was invited to dinner by Agatha Christie. Hitchens wrote about his meeting with Christie, saying: “The anti-Jewish flavor of the talk was not to be ignored or overlooked“. Hitchens who claimed to be an atheist and always blasted ‘Islamic Fundamentalism’ – was quite comfortable with the ‘Jewish Fundamentalism (Zionism)‘. Hitchens, however, did cross the line once a while. For example in ‘Hitch-22: A Memoir’, he wrote:

“If you meet a devout Christian or a believing Muslim, you are meeting someone who would give everything he owned for a personal, face-to-face meeting with the blessed founder or prophet. But in the visage of the Jew, such ardent believers encounter the very figure who did have such a precious moment, and who spurned the opportunity and turned shrugging aside“.

Cristina Odone, a British Zionist, posted an article in British daily The Telegraph (January 7, 2011) in which she wrote: “In terms of literary racism: Agatha Christie is truly the Queen of Crime“. Cristina claimed that Agatha was an anti-Semite because she portrayed Jews as “little” or “avid”, their lips are “thick and Semitic”, and their eyes light up with greed at the mention of money.

Two weeks ago, City of London decided to erect first Agatha Christie memorial for her contribution in literature and theatre. some of Christie’s 103 mystery novels and articles have been translated into 100 different languages and sold over 4 billion copies. In 1971 – she wae declared the ‘Dame of the British Empire’.

Australia-born British writer Charles Osborne in his book ‘Life and Crimes of Agatha Christie’ says that Agatha’s early works, featuring the detectives Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, reflected casual British anti-Semitism of the 1920s and 1930s; for example 1930 short story ‘The Soul of the Croupier’, in which “Hebaric men with hook-noses wearing rather flamboyant jewelry” appeared.
