Robert M. Gates, the outgoing US Secretary of Defense, in his last address at West Point on February 25, 2011 – admitted that based on Afghanistan and Iraqi experience, American ground forces cannot win future wars in Asia or Middle East or Africa.
“In my opinion, any future defense secretary who advises the president to again send a big American land army into Asia or into the Middle East or Africa should ‘have his head examined’, as Gen. MacArthur so delicately put it,” Hates told his audience.
Gates suggested that military size should be cutdown to reduce ever-increasing military budget and Pentagon should concentrate improving country’s air and naval striking capabilities. In the past, Gates has been in favor of arming and training foreign rebel groups and armies to fight America’s wars around the world (Sudan, Iraqi Kurdistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Georgia, Israel, Philippines, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, Fatah, etc.).
The US has world’s largest defense budget (US$725 billion for year 2011), the highest in US history while the country is also facing its highest national debt of over US$1.5 trillion. The US is also world’s No.1 arm exporter followed by Russia, Germany, France, UK and Israel. The US sells one-third of its arms to the Middle Eastern Muslim countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, etc.) while giving US$3 billion worth of arms free to Israel annually.
In the middle of the Arab world being in turmoil and western-puppet regimes struggling for their survivals – the western ‘merchants of death’ are holding Idex 2011 Arms Fair in the wealthy emirate of Abu Dhabi right now.
NATO secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen while attending the recent Herzliya Conference in Israel – suggested that the Zionist entity should become a full member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. One IOF general predicted at the same conference that in the future Israel would take part in military coalitions rather than fighting alone, which would represent a big change for the Israeli military (more non-Jewish soldiers fighting Israeli wars than now).
