In the footsteps of their Zionist masters in Tel Aviv, 29 Democrat Party Senators have signed a letter, penned by Robert Menendez from New Jersey and Bob Casey from Pennsylvania – asking Barack Obama to withhold US aid to PA (Fatah faction) pending assurances that Hamas will not join the PA unity government.
“The United States should stand by its refusal to work with any Palestinian government that includes Hamas,” their letter argued, and it cited Hamas’s criticism last week of the killing of Osama Bin Laden. It’s not Hamas only but milions of political-aware people consider the official story of death of Osama Bin Laden, as much a hoax as the 9/11 official story.
The US gives $3 billion in military aid per year while PA receives a few millions per year. In addition to military aid, Israel receives about $3 billion in direct foreign assistance each year, which is roughly one-fifth of America’s entire foreign aid budget. In per capita terms, the United States gives each Israeli a direct subsidy worth about $500 per year. This largesse is especially striking when one realizes that Israel is now a wealthy industrial state with a per capita income roughly equal to South Korea or Spain.

Last month, Mahmoud Abbas lead pro-US secularist Fatah signed a reconciliation deal with its rival the democratically elected (2006) Islamic Resistance Hamas under pressure from Palestinians. The great majority of Palestinians in the occupied Palestine and outside have called for a Hamas-Fatah united front against Israel or dismantle the Palestinian Authority (PA).
Fatah which stopped its military resistance against the Jewish occupiers of Palestine for the last three years – has lost its credibility as a resistance group. Furthermore, with the fall of Hosni Mubarak regime – Fatah has lost its major Arab supporter in addition Saudi ‘royals’. It’s too early to say, but Egyptian military junta’s announcement to open Rafah crossing, shows that Cairo would be less hostile to Hamas than before.
What bothers the Zionist-regime is that the Hamas-Fatah ‘interim government’ would put a stop to its under-the-table dealing with Abbas as PA head, plus Israel would loose its excuse for being unable to negotiate with a split PA leadership. The establishment of an ‘interim government’, on the other hand, will provide assurance for PA to receive recognition and a seat in UN Assembly backed by 130 of its member states. The Hamas-Fatah deal calls for an election within one year – which means that after the election, Israel-US-EU would have to negotiate peace with the elected government of a state and not the PA. And the way, Israel is being isolated more and more within the world community, Hamas has more chances to make the new government of an independent Palestinian state.
Benji Netanyahu and Shimon Peres, as expected, were the first-ones to show their knee-jerk reaction to Hamas-Fatah reconciliation. Both have asked the western governments to reject any future Palestinian government which is lead or associated with Hamas.
Interestingly, some ‘Freinds of Israel’ believe Hamas-Fatah deal would be good for Israel. Their views are based on the hope that should the Palestinian unity agreement hold without a renewal of military resistance, as Khalid Mash’al, suggested during the signing ceremony of the reconciliation agreement, the Palestinians will go a long way in changing western attitude towards Palestinian cause. Although from the Zionist-regime’s perspective Hamas must first meet the Quartet’s three conditions that it renounces military resistance and recognizes illegal Jewish occupation of Palestine and past agreements before Israel can engage Hamas. It is not likely that Hamas will accept all of these requirements in advance of the Palestinian elections other than informally halting all military resistance activities against the Zionist entity. In fact, Moscow’s hailing of the agreement, and the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton statement that she would “study” the deal, suggests that members of the Quartet may be weakening their illegal demands.
