On Tuesday, Julian Assange, the controversial co-founder of WikiLeaks opened his new talk show, ‘The World Tomorrow’, at the Russian Television (RT) with an interview with the leader of Lebanese Islamic Resistance, Hizbullah, Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah. Watch video below.
Hizbullah is the only Arab Army or militia group which has defeated the Jewish army twice – in 2000 and 2006. Hizbullah is country’s largest social organization, military resistance and political party. Hizbullah has two cabinet ministers in Lebanese government. Hizbullah is classified as a terrorist group by Israel, United States and Canada only.
It’s Sheikh Nasrallah’s first interview to an international media since Israel’s 34-day invasion of Lebanon in Summer 2006. Nasrallah answered Assange’s questions regarding Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Middle East and religion - during 30-minutes interview through a translator. Nasrallah also made some jokes to lighten-up the conversation.
Sheikh Nasrallah called Israel an illegal entity built on Palestinian land. And just becuase the Jews are occupying the land by force – it doesn’t make it their country under international and moral laws.
“The Palestinian land is the property of the Palestinian people. The passage of time does not turn the right into wrong. If the house was your property, and I occupied it by force, this doesn’t make it my property even after 50 or 100 years. Anyway this is our idealogical and legal opinion,”said Nasrallah.
Nasrallah said Hizbullah believes in one state solution for the occupied Palestine with equal rights for both foreign Jews and the native Muslims and Christians under a democratically elected government.
Sheikh Nasrallah also confirmed that Hizbullah will not lay-down its arms as Zionist entity still occupy some Lebanese land and poses a great threat to sovereign state of Lebanon. Lebanon’s President Michel Suleiman agrees with this statement as he called Hizbullah “the defender of Lebanon”.
Nasrallah called Syrian regime a ‘friend of resistance’. Damascus has always supported both Hamas and Hizbullah. Hizbullah appreciates Syrian support but Syria or any other foreign power (Iran) doesn’t influences Hizbullah leaders’ decisions. Both Hizbullah and Hamas had differences with Syrian regime in the past.
Nasrallah claimed Hizbullah had contacted Syrian opposition groups to encourage them and to facilitate the process of dialogue with the regime. But they rejected dialogue. Since they’re trained and funded by some western and Arab rulers – they considered that “civil war would be the only alternative to dialogue – this is what America and Israel want“.
Sayyed Nasrallah further clarified that “Basically, we don’t interfere in other Arab countries’ affairs, and this has always been our policy,” adding: “since the events in Syria erupted, we had talks with the Syrian leadership and discussed with it the importance of making reforms”.
“I personally found that President Bashar Al-Assad was very much ready for implementing major and radical reforms,” he added.
Sayyed Nasrallah denied that Hezbollah was related to international mafia groups and drug companies, because “this is in our religion, law, and morals a major prohibition that we fight and confront. They say a lot of things that are far from reality and are part of the media war against Hezbollah.”
Julian Assange and Sayyid Nasrallah also shared a joke about encryption — with the latter saying that Hezbollah kept Israeli code-breakers on their toes by using Arabic farm slang.
“That’s not going to do you any good in WikiLeaks, by the way,” Nasrallah joked.
