The pro-Israel western powers are preparig ground in Syria for another Libya-style invasion. In both countries they’re using Saudi-controlled armed ‘Salafi (Islamist)’ groups to destablize the regimes which have never posed a threat to the West or Israel. Like Libya, the Syrian protest which began at Daraa, a town on the Syrian Jordanian border with a population of 75,000 and not 300,000 as the Associated Press had claimed.
The protests in both Libya and Syria are not part of the so-called the non-violent “Arab Spring”, like the ones in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, US-Israel controlled Iraqi Kurdistan, Morocco and Bahrain but armed thugs murdering innocent civilians on behalf of their foreign donors.
History shows that Syria under Hafiz Assad’s Baathist regime never took any military action to protect Lebanon. In fact he sent his army into Lebanon in 1976 under an agreement with Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin and King Hussein of Jordan to make sure the Palestinians in Lebanon will not be permitted to launch any attacks on Northern Israel. According to Israel daily Ha’aretz (April 7, 1995), the April 28, 1976 written agreement is still kept at the Israeli Government archives. Any claim justifying Syrian presence in Lebanon for the protection of the Lebanese Christians is completely false, and has no merit.
Professor Ali Bigdeli (Shahid Beheshti University, Iran) in a recent interview said: “The US’ approach to Bashar Assad and his late father Hafiz has been two-faced. Despite lip service, Hafiz was a harmless neighbor for Israel, and just as innocuous for the Americans. No bullet crossed the border into Israel after the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Bashar Assad toed his father’s line in treating Israel. From this point of view, the Israelis prefer that Bashar Assad keeps his seat of power. However, as self-proclaimed advocates of human rights, the Americans feel the pressure to take a firm stance against the violent crackdown against Syrian demonstrators. Bashar Assad’s handling of the situation was criticized by both President Obama and Hillary Clinton. The United States imposed sanctions on three Syrian officials two days ago”.
The Syrian-Israeli relations started showing cracks after Israel Occupation Force (IOF) was forced to vacate South Lebanon as result of Hizbullah’s military resistance. Israel blamed Syria for not disarming Hizbulallah by sending Syrian occupation forces into South Lebanon in 2000.
Then came the Jewish vengeance in the 2005 assassination of the former prime minister Rafik Hariri which both Israel and the US blamed on Damascus but later shifted the blame on to Hizbullah.
Bashar Assad gave refuge to Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal in Syria to use him as a political bargaining chip against Israel. Same can be said about Assad’s verbal support of Lebanese Islamic Resistance Hizbullah. As for Assad’s ‘friendly’ relation with Tehran are concerned – it’s just for country’s much needed foreign aid.
Professor Michel Chossudovsky (University of Ottawa, Canada) in an article entitled Syria: Who is behind the protest movement?, published in Global Research on May 3, 2011, wrote:
There is evidence of gross media manipulation and falsification from the outset of the protest movement in southern Syria on March 17th.
The death figures presented in the reports are often unsubstantiated. Many of the reports are “according to witnesses”. The images and video footages aired on Al-Jazeera and CNN do not always correspond to the events which are being covered by the news reports.
In contrast to Egypt and Tunisia, in Syria there is considerable popular support for President Bashar Al Assad. The large rally in Damascus on March 29, “with tens of thousands of supporters” (Reuters) of President Al Assad is barely mentioned. Yet in an unusual twist, the images and video footage of several pro-government events were used in an utterly twisted fashion by the Western media to convince international public opinion that the President was being confronted by mass anti-government rallies
Both the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood (whose leadership is in exile in the UK) and the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir (the Party of Liberation), among others have paid lip service to the protest movement.
The Syrian government may be autocratic. It is certainly not a model of democracy but neither is theUSadministration, which is characterized by rampant corruption, the derogation of civil liberties under the Patriot legislation, the legalization of torture, not to mention its “bloodless” “humanitarian wars”.
The staged protest movement in Syria is modelled on Libya. The insurrection in Eastern Libya is integrated by the Libya Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) which is supported by MI6 and the CIA. The ultimate objective of the Syria protest movement, through media lies and fabrications, is to create divisions within Syrian society as well as justify an eventual “humanitarian intervention”.
While a US-NATO military intervention in the immediate future seems highly unlikely,Syriais nonetheless on the Pentagon’s military roadmap, namely an eventual war onSyriahas been contemplated both by Washington and Tel Aviv.
