The Geneva office of the joint UN-Arab League mediator Kofi Annan has announced that he will be visiting Tehran on April 11 to seek Tehran’s help to convince Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to make more concessions acceptable to the West and its Arab puppet regimes. Iran is a key regional supporter of Syria and Kofi Annan held talk with Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Geneva on February 27 just days before taking up his new post.
Annan met with president Bashar in Damascus last month and later praised him for accepting Annan’s six-point peace plan. However, the peace plan doesn’t pinpoint the Zionist-controlled governments which are bent upon on removal of Bashar with a pro-Israel regime. In other words, it doesn’t provide Bashar with an enemy to negotiate with. Annan’s peace plan agenda is that Syrian forces withdraw from streets and leave them open to foreign death squads.
Washington, like in Libya last year, has no interest in Bashar al-Assad holding democratic elections or immplementing better human rights. What it and its ‘coalition of the willing wrmongers’ need is a less regime posing threat to Israel’s expansionism. After failing to come up with an alternative to Assad at Tunisian conference of the “Enemies of Syria” – they held a second conference in Turkey recently. The plan is to trap Turkey into another Kurdish war zone along Syria-Turkey border.
